Summer 2026 Fashion Trends: What's Out and What's In
If there’s one major shift defining summer 2026 fashion, it’s this: we’re moving away from ultra-tight, body-hugging silhouettes and leaning into more expressive, relaxed, and structured dressing.
As a stylist, I’ve been seeing this transition happen steadily with clients over the last year, but this summer it feels fully mainstream. Fashion is entering a softer phase — one that prioritizes shape, movement, styling versatility, and individuality over overly fitted trend pieces.
That doesn’t mean everything from the past decade is suddenly “wrong.” Many of these trends still work. They just no longer feel like the most current way to dress.
Here’s what’s starting to feel outdated for summer 2026 — and what’s replacing it.
Denim: The Shift Away From Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are still relevant in 2026, but they’re no longer the dominant silhouette driving fashion.
Fashion is cyclical, and skinny jeans have been part of mainstream dressing for more than 20 years. Naturally, there’s a shift happening toward new proportions and shapes. Gen Z has played a major role in that transition because they grew up surrounded by skinny jeans and body-con aesthetics, so they’re gravitating toward silhouettes that feel fresher and less restrictive.
The biggest denim styles replacing skinny jeans this summer are:
- Cigarette Jeans: Structured, slim, and polished without feeling skin-tight. They give a cleaner silhouette while still feeling modern.
- Cuffed Jeans: Especially dark-wash or straight-leg versions with intentional cuffs. They feel elevated and effortless for summer styling.
- Cropped Flares: One of the easiest ways to modernize denim. They work especially well with kitten heels and slingbacks.
- Capris: Capri pants are quietly becoming one of the biggest comeback trends of the season, but in a much sleeker, more refined way than the early 2000s versions.
- Barrel & Relaxed Shapes: More sculptural denim silhouettes continue to dominate because they add personality to otherwise simple outfits.

Polished Maximalism Is Returning Through Accessories
One of the biggest accessory shifts for summer 2026 is the return of polished maximalism. Fashion is moving away from overly minimal styling and embracing accessories that feel more expressive, playful, and personality-driven.
Layered gold chains, softer modern chokers, structured headbands, and colorful statement earrings are all making a strong comeback, but in a more elevated and wearable way than past trend cycles. Instead of perfectly matching minimalist looks, people are using accessories to add individuality and styling depth to simple summer outfits.
At U-Glam, we’re seeing growing interest in statement jewelry and fashion accessories that feel bold yet refined, which perfectly reflects where fashion is heading this season.

Summer Dresses Are Becoming Softer And More Structured
We’re also seeing a major shift away from overly tight body-con dresses and aggressive cutout styles. Instead, summer dresses are becoming more wearable, romantic, and shape-focused.
- A-Line Dresses: A-line silhouettes are having a huge resurgence because they feel timeless, flattering, and easy to wear in real life.
- Bubble Hem Dresses: One of the standout trend shapes for summer 2026. They bring volume and playfulness without feeling overstyled.
- Knit Halter Dresses: These feel especially current because they combine softness with structure. They’re easy to dress up or down and work for everything from vacation styling to city summer dressing.
The biggest difference this year is that dresses feel less “Instagram trend-driven” and more personal again.

Shoes Are Becoming More Feminine Again
Footwear is also moving away from heavy, chunky styles. For the last several seasons, oversized sneakers and bulky sandals dominated fashion. This summer, silhouettes are becoming lighter, sleeker, and more refined.
The shoe trends replacing chunkier styles include:
- Kitten Heels:Minimal kitten heels are becoming everyday staples again because they feel polished without sacrificing comfort.
- Wedges: Wedges are back, but in a cleaner, more elevated way than previous versions. Think softer shapes and minimal straps rather than overly bulky platforms.
- Slingbacks: Slingbacks instantly make outfits feel sharper and more sophisticated, especially when paired with relaxed denim or capris.
- Jelly Sandals: One of the more playful trends returning this summer. The updated versions feel fashion-forward rather than nostalgic.

Why These Trends Feel Different
What’s interesting about summer 2026 is that fashion feels less focused on “perfect” dressing.
People want clothes that feel expressive but still wearable day to day.
Clients are shopping more intentionally. Instead of buying entirely new wardrobes every season, they’re updating silhouettes:
- swapping skinny jeans for cigarette cuts
- replacing body-con dresses with softer structured shapes
- choosing refined shoes over chunky styles
The overall mood feels more relaxed, more individual, and honestly more sustainable long term.
My Styling Advice For Summer 2026
People aren’t necessarily throwing away older trends. Most are simply styling them differently or investing in a few updated silhouettes that make their wardrobe feel current again.
